Here is what private training costs in Calgary, what a $150 session with us actually includes, and the honest math on when booking lessons one at a time stops being the smart way to spend.

What one session covers, and how many you might need.
Every session is one hour, one dog, one household, for $150 plus GST. We coach you and your dog together on the skills that matter to your week: loose-leash walking, door manners, recall groundwork, settling on a place. You leave with a written weekly plan, so the seven days between sessions are structured practice rather than guesswork.
How many sessions depends on the dog and on your homework. Polishing one skill, like a decent heel, might take two or three. Building a full obedience foundation from scratch usually means more, spread over weeks, and dogs with real behavioural struggles often need a different format entirely. We will tell you our honest estimate at the first session and revise it out loud as we go.

Doing the math
Where hourly lessons stop making financial sense.
Stack enough hours and the arithmetic shifts. Four private sessions cost $600 plus GST and give your dog four coached hours across a month. A week of day training is $650 plus GST for five full weekdays of professional handling, drop-off between 8 and 10 am, pick-up between 5 and 7 pm, plus a one-hour go-home lesson. If your dog needs volume, the week wins.
The same logic scales up. Twelve private sessions run $1,800 plus GST, spread across three months of your own follow-through. Complete On-Leash Foundations is $1,865 plus GST for two weeks of daily live-in training, then a handover lesson, a follow-up session, and lifetime phone and email support. Private lessons are the right buy when you want coaching. When you need a rebuild, the live-in formats cost about the same and deliver far more repetitions.

How much is a private dog trainer in Calgary?
Hourly rates in Calgary generally fall between $100 and $200. Ours is $150 plus GST for a one-hour, one-on-one session that includes a written weekly plan. Everything we do is private, so there is no group option at a lower rate.
How many private training sessions does a dog need?
There is no fixed number, and anyone quoting one before meeting your dog is guessing. Sharpening a single skill can take two or three sessions, while a full foundation takes more and serious behaviour issues usually suit a live-in program better. We give a straight estimate at the first session.
Do I need to be at the private sessions?
Yes, that is the format's entire value. We train you and your dog as a pair so the skills survive after we leave, and the plan gives you the homework in writing. If you want training done without your weekly involvement, day training or a board and train fits better.
Is private training cheaper than board and train?
Per hour, yes. Per result, it depends on the dog: a handful of sessions is the cheapest fix for small, specific goals, but a dozen sessions costs close to our two-week live-in program with far fewer hands-on hours. We will tell you when you have crossed that line.
