Board & train
Board and train for Huskys
A husky is built to run for hours, decide things for itself and tell you about it loudly. That makes it a wonderful dog and an exhausting student. Doors are suggestions, fences are puzzles, and recall is a negotiation. A live-in program does not change the breed. It gives the dog a routine it cannot argue with, and gives you a realistic picture of what off leash can mean.

Routine over argument
Structure is what a husky cannot talk its way out of.
Many huskies have learned that protest works: the howl from behind a gate, the backward flop on the leash, the sprint through an open door. A structured routine is built to remove that payoff. Place and down-stay are taught with markers and rewards, quiet is rewarded rather than negotiated with, and a real need, a toilet trip or genuine distress, is always met. Threshold manners are worked with the dog on leash, because a husky who bolts once has learned bolting works.
On-Leash Foundations is built for the husky who drags and treats the leash as a suggestion, which describes many. Functional Off-Leash is built for a husky with decent manners whose owner wants recall around distractions, and includes an Educator remote collar, introduced properly and taught to you. The honest part: for a breed built to run, off-leash reliability in open country is a conversation, not a line on a price list, and that conversation happens at the consultation.
- Doors worked on leash
- Quiet rewarded, not argued with
- Loose leash, not a sled
- Recall against the urge to run
Home, with fences
The exercise question does not go away.
What comes home is a husky who has lived a structured routine with daily one-on-one training, socialization and enrichment. At the handover lesson you take over the markers, the threshold rules and the leash, and the free follow-up sessions are where drift gets checked. Training does not replace running. A husky still needs a lot of exercise, and in our experience a tired husky with a routine often holds rules better than a bored one without.
Expect the consultation to ask the hard questions: how the dog gets out, what it does out there, how much it runs each day, and whether the howling looks like protest or panic, because anxiety is what Behaviour Rehab is built for, after a full assessment. You will get a straight answer on how much off-leash freedom is realistic, and a recommendation that might be the smaller program if that is what the problem needs. The method is in our husky training guide.

Asked and answered
The questions people ask us.
Can a husky board and train help a dog that ignores everyone?
A live-in program suits an independent dog because it shapes the environment and the payoff all day, which is hard to do at home around a work schedule. Every program includes daily one-on-one training, a structured routine, enrichment and a handover lesson. What it cannot do is remove the breed's instinct to run, so expectations are set honestly at the consultation.
Which board and train husky program includes off-leash training?
Functional Off-Leash is a three-week program built for dogs with decent manners who are ready for more freedom, and it includes a Micro or Mini Educator remote collar plus education on using it properly. Advanced Off-Leash adds off-leash heel and commands at distance over four weeks. For a husky, how much unfenced freedom is realistic is discussed honestly at the consultation.
What does a husky training program do about escaping?
Escapes are treated as a management problem first and a training problem second. Threshold manners, place and recall are worked with the dog on leash before anything is tested. At home you keep the same rules, plus a fence the dog cannot dig under or climb.
Will board and train stop a husky howling?
We cannot promise the howling stops. Protest howling often persists because it pays, and a structured routine is built to remove that payoff. Howling that comes from panic when left alone is a different problem, and Behaviour Rehab is built for anxiety after a full assessment.
