Board & train
Board and train for Great Danes
A Great Dane puppy can rest its chin on the kitchen counter long before it understands why it should not. Size arrives early and maturity takes its time, so manners have to come before the weight does. Here is what a live-in program works on for Danes, how growth factors into the choice, and which options fit.

Before the weight
Door manners and leash skills for a puppy the size of a pony.
Many Great Danes jump up to greet, crowd the front door and pull the moment something interesting appears, and at this breed's size each habit can knock over a visitor. A live-in program works on a place command that holds while the door opens, a sit for greetings, and loose-leash walking taught before the dog has the mass to win the argument. Your vet's advice on exercise for a growing frame is welcome at the consultation.
Puppy Fundamentals ($2,775 + GST) is built for young Danes in their key learning window, with crate comfort and calm exposure to new sights and sounds. On-Leash Foundations is built for dogs who already drag. The off-leash programs work on recall and freedom to move, so for a still-growing Dane, ask your vet about exercise before choosing one. The how-to lives in our Great Dane training guide.
- Place while the door opens
- Four paws down for greetings
- Loose leash before full weight
- Settles into a structured routine
The long puppyhood
Keeping a slow-maturing giant on track at home.
Because a Dane often stays adolescent in attitude long after it looks grown, the habits from a program need daily upkeep at home. The handover lesson walks you through the door routine, the greeting cue and the leash handling, using the tools your dog trained on. Free follow-up sessions let us check how those skills hold up as your Dane keeps growing and testing boundaries.
Your daily part is simple and consistent: ask for place before you open the door, reward calm greetings, and keep walks on a loose leash even while your Dane is still clumsy. Some habits may slip during adolescence, and if a slip persists or grows, that is a reason to reassess with us. The consultation weighs age and growth, and if private lessons are enough, we will say so.
