The Bernedoodles we see are rarely aggressive and almost never timid. They are people-oriented crosses who hit adolescence and discover that a heavy body gets results. Jumping gets attention. Leaning gets scratches. Pulling gets them to the human on the bench. The owner asks for greeting manners, a loose leash, a dog that can settle when company sits down, and a dog that tolerates brushing and nail trims without turning the whole thing into a game.
Calgary adds its own wrinkles. The coat that shrugs off January makes July walks a slog, so summer sessions move to early mornings and shady stretches, and we teach owners to read an overheating dog before it flops. Winter is the breed's season, which means the pulling gets worse when the pathways are busy and the footing is icy. Yards matter too: a Bernedoodle left to entertain itself digs, chews and barks at whatever moves past the fence.

How we train them
Manners first, then the leash, then the world.
Most adolescent Bernedoodles land in Complete On-Leash Foundations, a two-week board and train at $1,865 plus GST. Two weeks is enough to install loose-leash walking, a reliable place command and a sit that holds while a stranger says hello. Younger pups do better in Puppy Fundamentals, three weeks at $2,775, where crate comfort, handling and structured socialization get built before size becomes leverage. Grooming tolerance is taught as handling, on the table, with markers and rewards before anything else.
Every board and train comes with daily one-on-one sessions, a structured routine, enrichment, owner updates, and a handover lesson where you learn the same cues and timing we used. Follow-up sessions are free. If your Bernedoodle is already solid on leash and you want a dog you can trust on a quiet trail, Functional Off-Leash at $3,030 includes the Educator collar and the coaching to use it well. Day Training at $650 per week suits owners who want the dog home every night.

Start with greeting manners and a place command, because most Bernedoodle problems are a big dog getting paid for being close to people. Are Bernedoodles hard to train?
