Board & train
Does board and train help with marking indoors?
Marking reads like a message left for other dogs, and the message board is your house: the chair leg, the new rug, the corner where a visiting dog once stood. That makes it an odd fit for a program that happens somewhere else. Before any of that, a vet appointment, because new or changed urination is a body question first. Then the honest program answer.

Routine, not scent
The routine comes home with the dog, the scent does not.
Marking is absent from every program's skill list. What every board and train does run is a structured routine: daily one-on-one training, daily exercise, enrichment and individual care, with the dog living the schedule it is learning. Puppy Fundamentals, three weeks at $2,775 plus GST, adds crate comfort, and the welcome package includes a crate-training guide. On-Leash Foundations and Puppy Fundamentals both work on a place command, which gives a dog a spot to settle other than the spot it has been marking.
Weeks of supervised routine mean far fewer chances to rehearse the habit, and a daily rhythm of going outside that the dog can carry home. That is the part that tends to transfer. What does not transfer is your house. The stay happens in clean, comfortable accommodations, not your front hall, so the corners that smell like marking still smell like it on return unless they were cleaned while the dog was away. The first hour back is the real exam.
- Vet appointment before booking
- Structured routine, daily exercise
- Place and crate comfort
- The scent stays at home
Back in the hallway
The home has to hold what the routine started.
Supervision comes home as your job: knowing where the dog is, especially in the first days back, and keeping the old targets out of reach until the outdoor habit has had time to settle. Cleaning the marked spots before the dog comes home is yours too, and the how and why live in our guide on how to stop a dog marking in the house. The handover lesson covers the routine; the free follow-up session is there if the chair legs become interesting again.
Bring the vet's findings to the consultation, plus a short history: when it started, which spots, and what changed around then, such as a new dog, a baby or new furniture. Day Training at $650 plus GST per week keeps the dog home every night, so your house is part of the training week and the one-hour go-home lesson can speak to it. Where that or a Private Training plan at $150 plus GST per session is enough, that is what we will recommend.

Asked and answered
The questions people ask us.
Does board and train fix marking indoors?
Not on its own. A stay runs a structured routine with daily exercise and individual care, which leaves far fewer chances to rehearse marking, but the marked spots in your house stay exactly where they were. A vet visit comes first, and the home has to hold the routine afterwards.
Is there a marking indoors training program?
No program lists marking by name. The curricula offer a structured routine in every board and train, crate comfort in Puppy Fundamentals, and a place command in Puppy Fundamentals and On-Leash Foundations. The consultation recommends the format and will say so if a smaller one is enough.
Should a dog see a vet before board and train for marking indoors?
Yes. New, more frequent or changed urination is a vet question before it is a training question, and we will ask what the vet found. Booking a stay for a body problem spends your money on the wrong thing.
Is Day Training better than board and train for marking indoors?
It can suit a dog whose evenings at home are where the problem lives, since the dog goes home each night and the weekly one-hour go-home lesson can cover what happens there. It runs Monday to Friday at $650 plus GST per week, with drop-off 8 to 10 am and pick-up 5 to 7 pm. The consultation weighs it against a stay.
