Board and train

Send-away dog training in Calgary

Nobody loves the phrase. Sending a dog away sounds like giving up, when what owners often mean is closer to: have the habits built properly, then be taught how to keep them. That is the shape of a board and train with us. The dog lives in, trains one-on-one every day, and goes home through a handover lesson. Below, what it costs in Calgary and what to check before a dog goes anywhere.

What it means here

What the dog does all day, and how you hear about it.

Send-away training at Northline K9 is a board and train. Your dog lives in for the length of the program and trains one-on-one every day inside a structured routine, with socialization and enrichment built into the day rather than bolted on. Accommodations are clean and comfortable, with fresh water, daily exercise and individual care. While the dog is away you get social-media updates and personal phone or email check-ins. Visits are gently discouraged.

Five programs are published, from $1,865 + GST for two-week On-Leash Foundations to $4,850 to $5,760 + GST for five to six week Behaviour Rehab, planned and priced after a full assessment. Puppy Fundamentals, Functional Off-Leash and Advanced Off-Leash sit between at three, three and four weeks. Skills are taught with markers and rewards first and tools are matched to the individual dog; every program closes with a handover lesson where those tools are taught to you, and free follow-up sessions come after.

Before you send

Five questions to ask before a dog goes anywhere.

Ask any send-away program the same five things. How will you hear from the dog while it is away? What does a normal day hold, and where does the dog sleep? Is there a handover lesson before the dog comes home? Are follow-up sessions included or billed separately? And for a dog with anxiety, reactivity or a bite history, is there a full assessment before anyone quotes a program? A sixth, quieter one: are the prices published before you call?

Our answers: social-media updates plus personal phone or email check-ins; daily one-on-one training, exercise and enrichment inside a structured routine, in clean and comfortable accommodations; a handover lesson closing every program; free follow-up sessions included; a full assessment before Behaviour Rehab is planned and priced; and every price published. The same list compares a training stay with a boarding stay: put the written inclusions side by side. Our graduate boarding, $65 + GST a night for graduates and existing clients, can include refresher work.

Asked and answered

The questions people ask us.

Is send-away dog training in Calgary the same as board and train?

With us, yes. The dog you send away lives in for the program, trains one-on-one every day, and comes back to you through a handover lesson, with free follow-up sessions after. Where the two words differ is emphasis: send-away describes the leaving, board and train describes what happens during the stay.

How long do you send a dog away for training?

Published programs run two weeks for On-Leash Foundations, three for Puppy Fundamentals and Functional Off-Leash, four for Advanced Off-Leash, and five to six for Behaviour Rehab. Each is built for a different dog and goal; book a consultation to talk through which one fits yours.

Is there send-away puppy training near me?

Puppy Fundamentals is a three-week board and train for puppies in their key learning window, $2,775 + GST. It works on crate comfort, leash manners, name recognition, sit, down and place, and structured socialization, with a free follow-up within 60 days and a slip lead and training collar to take home. We serve Calgary and the surrounding areas.

Should I send my dog away for training if the problem is aggression?

Behaviour Rehab is the program built for anxiety, reactivity and aggression: a five to six week board and train at $4,850 to $5,760 + GST, planned and priced after a full assessment, and dogs with bite histories are accepted after that assessment. Whether a stay is the right move for your dog is what the assessment is for. If the behaviour appeared suddenly or with signs of pain, ask your vet first.
