Start them young

Puppies learn fastest before they have anything to unlearn, and Puppy Fundamentals is built for exactly that stage. Over three weeks your puppy learns to settle in a crate through the night, walk without dragging you, respond to their name, and hold sit, down, and place. Every session is one-on-one, taught with markers and rewards, and a slip lead and training collar come home with you.
Drop-off is one trip up Highway 2A, about 25 to 35 minutes from the south end of Calgary, and pick-up is the same trip in reverse three weeks later. Between the two you get regular progress updates. The handover lesson at pick-up teaches you the cues and the timing, and a follow-up session within 60 days is included to tighten anything that slips.

The Sheep River pathway system is the daily walking spine of Okotoks, which means your puppy's adult life will be full of joggers, strollers, bikes, and other dogs at close range. A puppy who learns early that those things are background noise, not invitations, becomes an adult you can walk anywhere. That is the job of structured socialization, and it is woven through all three weeks.
New neighbourhoods also mean new fences, and new fences mean dogs barking behind them. We proof leash skills around exactly that kind of real-world noise, rewarding your puppy for choosing you over the commotion. What about puppy classes in Okotoks?
We cannot speak for anyone else, but we do not offer group classes in Okotoks or Calgary. All of our training is one-on-one because puppies learn faster without a room full of distractions they are not ready for. For Okotoks families, Puppy Fundamentals covers in three weeks what weekly classes stretch over months.
Where do Okotoks puppies go to puppy school?
Many come to us in Calgary, about 25 to 35 minutes up Highway 2A. Our version of puppy school is a three-week stay with daily one-on-one training rather than a weekly hour, so the highway only features at drop-off and pick-up. Updates keep you in the loop between the two.
Will three weeks of board and train stick once we are home?
That is what the handover lesson and the follow-up are for. You learn the same cues, markers, and leash handling your puppy just learned, and a follow-up session within 60 days is there to correct drift. Habits live at home, so we make sure you leave equipped to run them.
Do you use training collars on puppies?
Puppy skills are taught with markers and rewards first, always. The take-home tools for Puppy Fundamentals are a slip lead and a training collar, both introduced properly and taught to you at the handover. Tools are matched to the individual dog, never applied by default, and e-collars are not part of the puppy program.
