Puppy Fundamentals builds exactly that base. Three weeks of daily individual training establish crate comfort, name response, sit, down, place and leash manners, with each behaviour rewarded until it becomes the puppy's default.
The program also banks social experience while the window is open. Your puppy meets sound, movement, strangers and well-matched dogs in controlled setups, which is how confidence gets built rather than gambled on. Everything transfers to you through a handover lesson at pick-up, plus a follow-up visit within 60 days, and habits like place make future lake days and patio visits far easier.

Southeast on foot
Sue Higgins is the goal, not the starting line.
Sue Higgins Park is one of the largest riverside off-leash parks in the city, and southeast dog culture revolves around it. For a young puppy, though, it is the final exam, not orientation. Crowds of loose, fast adult dogs are exactly the setting where an unprepared puppy learns fear or frantic play. Hold off until recall, neutrality and confidence are genuinely in place.
Early outings belong in gentler places. Fish Creek Provincial Park is on-leash and full of manageable novelty, Pearce Estate Park makes a calm change of scene, and the Bow pathways work in short stretches once your puppy can handle passing bikes. Factor in winter, too: a Mahogany puppy born in fall will do its most important socializing in snow, so brief, regular exposure matters more than perfect weather.

Are there puppy classes in Calgary SE?
Group puppy classes are common; ours is a different model. We train each puppy individually, either in our three-week Puppy Fundamentals board and train or through day training and private sessions. One trainer, one puppy, real progress you can see at handover.
Do you offer puppy school in Calgary SE?
Yes, in board and train form: your puppy stays with us for three weeks of daily lessons, structure, enrichment and supervised socialization, with updates along the way. We work with families across the southeast, from Seton and Cranston to Inglewood and Ramsay.
When is a puppy ready for Sue Higgins?
When it has reliable recall and can stay calm around strange dogs, which most puppies simply do not have yet. Rushing it is how off-leash problems start. We will tell you honestly when your dog is ready, and it may be later than the neighbours suggest.
What happens after the three weeks?
You get a full handover lesson so you can run everything your puppy learned, plus a follow-up session within 60 days. Graduates can also board with us at $65 per night whenever you travel.
