Leash training
Leash training in Calgary
A walk should be the easy part of owning a dog. If yours starts with a braced arm and ends with a sore shoulder, the leash has become a negotiation, and the dog is winning it. We teach loose-leash walking one-on-one, then hand it back to you on the same pathways where you actually walk.

The finished picture
What a good walk looks like when the pulling stops.
Finished leash manners are quiet. The leash hangs in a J, the dog's shoulder stays near your knee, and a jogger, a bike, or another dog passing on the pathway is information, not an event. You can hold a coffee. You can stop to talk to a neighbour without being towed off the curb. That is the outcome we train for, and it holds in the real places you walk, not just a quiet hallway.
Pulling is not stubbornness, it is physics plus payoff. Every time the dog leans in and gains ground toward the smell, the squirrel, or the park gate, pulling gets paid. Dogs repeat what works, so each walk quietly trains the opposite of what you want. That is why waiting it out fails: without training, the habit compounds daily, and a grown adolescent hits harder than the puppy who started it.
- Leash hangs loose in a J
- Passes joggers and bikes calmly
- Walks past other dogs
- One hand free for coffee
Three routes
Pick the pace that fits your dog and your week.
There are three ways to get there with us, and all of them are one-on-one. Private sessions at $150 teach you to train the walk yourself, with a written weekly plan between visits. Day training at $650 per week means weekday drop-off, we do the daily reps, and a one-hour go-home lesson each week keeps you current. Both suit owners who want the dog home every night.
The fast lane is Complete On-Leash Foundations: a 2-week board and train at $1,865 + GST. Your dog lives in, works daily on loose-leash walking, heel, sit, down, stay, and place, and gets proofed around everyday distractions before coming home. A handover lesson teaches you the system, a follow-up session tunes it, and lifetime phone and email support covers the questions that come later. Slip lead and collar included.
| Route | What happens | Price |
|---|---|---|

| Day training | Weekday training, home nights, weekly lesson | $650/week + GST |
| Private sessions | You learn the mechanics with coaching | $150/session + GST |

Asked and answered
The questions people ask us.
What does leash manners training in Calgary cost?
With us it depends on the route: private sessions are $150 each, day training is $650 per week, and the 2-week Complete On-Leash Foundations board and train is $1,865, all plus GST. A consultation sorts out which one actually fits your dog.
How long does loose leash walking take to train?
The live-in route takes two weeks of daily work, then a handover lesson and a follow-up session to transfer it to you. Coaching routes move at the pace of your practice between sessions, so they take longer but cost less up front. Either way the skill has to be proofed around real distractions before it counts.
Can an older dog still learn loose leash walking?
Yes. Pulling is a rehearsed habit, not a personality trait, and adult dogs relearn the walk the same way puppies learn it: markers, rewards, and consistent handling. The habit is more practised in an older dog, which is exactly what daily one-on-one repetition is for.
Do you use a specific collar or harness for leash training?
We match the tool to the individual dog rather than running one system for everyone. Skills are taught with markers and rewards first; slip leads and other tools are introduced properly and taught to you at handover. A slip lead and training collar are included with the board and train.
