Small dog, big opinions
Stubborn on leash, soft in the lungs, sure of the couch.
House training is the first call, and with Frenchies it drags on because the dog is small, the accidents are small, and the condo elevator is a long way from the grass. Next comes the leash refusal: four paws braced, head down, going nowhere. Dragging a Frenchie is pointless and hard on a limited airway. Then the couch. A Frenchie who growls when asked to move off the cushions is not being cute, and it gets less cute with every month of adolescence.
Weather adds the airway problem twice a year. On hot days a flat-faced dog overheats fast, so training happens early, in shade, in minutes rather than hours. In deep winter it needs a coat, paw care against ice and salt, and short outings that end before the shivering starts. Separation whining in a condo is the fourth ask, and the neighbours usually raise it before the owner does. All of it is trainable if the plan respects the body.

One-on-one is the only format here, and for a Frenchie that is the safe choice: no crowded class where an overheated dog keeps pushing. We teach with markers and rewards first, in short reps with rest, and the tool has to suit the airway, which is why the fit is decided dog by dog and taught to you at handover. For a puppy, Puppy Fundamentals at $2,775 plus GST covers crate comfort including nights, leash manners and structured socialization over 3 weeks.
For an adult who plants on leash, On-Leash Foundations, a 2-week board and train at $1,865, builds loose-leash walking and a solid place command that also settles couch guarding: a dog with a place has somewhere to go. Separation whining in a condo often suits Private Training at $150 a session, with a written weekly plan you run at home, since the problem lives in your building. Day Training at $650 a week fits owners who want daily work without an overnight stay.

How do you train a French Bulldog in Calgary that refuses to walk?
We do not drag. The dog learns to move on a marker and a reward, in short reps, until forward motion pays better than planting, and then the tool matched to your dog keeps it honest without loading the airway. You learn the same routine at the handover lesson so the lobby door stops being a negotiation.
Are French Bulldogs hard to train?
They are more stubborn than slow. A Frenchie learns quickly when the reward is worth it and the session ends before the dog is tired, which means the trainer has to be patient and precise rather than forceful. Most of the difficulty comes from their limits on heat, cold and breathing, which shape every plan we write.
