Calgary is an on-leash city, so unless a posted sign says off-leash the leash stays on, and a ravine walk is only pleasant when that leash is slack. The skill is a loose leash and a neutral attitude toward strangers, canine and human.
The other half of Sage Hill life is the shopping hub: carts, automatic doors, patio tables and dogs waiting outside while someone runs in. A dog that can hold a down-stay beside a bench while the family gets groceries earns a lot more outings. And because the nearest large off-leash parks require a drive, Sage Hill dogs tend to arrive at them fizzing, so recall gets taught on a long line before anybody talks about off-leash freedom.

Two programs cover most Sage Hill dogs.
Sage Hill sends us two kinds of dog. The first is the puppy, often a doodle, in a new house with a small yard; Puppy Fundamentals fits, a 3-week board and train at $2,775 plus GST where the crate, the leash, the name, the basic positions and careful socialization all get built, with a follow-up within 60 days. The second is the adolescent dragging everyone down the ravine path, and On-Leash Foundations, 2 weeks at $1,865 plus GST, is usually the honest call.
Board and train is drop-off, so you bring the dog to us from the northwest and collect a calmer one, with owner updates, a handover lesson and free follow-ups included. Commuters use Day Training at $650 per week, Monday to Friday, with a weekly one-hour go-home lesson. Private sessions at $150 an hour can run on your own ravine path. When we checked, Sage Hill was not on the City's off-leash locations page, so confirm any spot on calgary.ca before the leash comes off.
