The City's off-leash list has entries for Tuscany and Bowmont Park, and none for Royal Oak. Outside a designated off-leash area a dog must be leashed, so the ravine pathways, the green space and every sidewalk along Country Hills Boulevard are on-leash by rule. A Royal Oak dog lives its life on a line, and the first thing it has to be good at is walking on one: no pulling toward the ravine, no lunging at a cyclist, a loose leash the whole way home.
Off-leash time means leaving the community, and the nearest big options are Bowmont Park and the Bow River pathways. Bowmont runs along the river's north bank, the City lists one fenced site there, and its park page notes beavers, geese and ponds with frogs. That is a lot to chase. So the second skill is a recall that holds with water and wildlife in view, and the third is a leash on Bowmont's paved pathways, where the two-metre rule applies inside the off-leash area.
