Bowmont Park's stretch of river is home to Canada geese, mergansers and gulls, and ignoring them on leash comes long before any dog is trusted off it.
Then there is the water, and the off-leash question. Bowmont Park, on the north bank of the Bow, has designated off-leash areas, one of them fenced, plus inland ponds, a steep cliff face and a mature balsam poplar forest full of smells. Even there, the City requires a leash on any paved pathway and in the parking lots, so a Bowness dog needs two modes: heel on the asphalt, then a recall strong enough to turn it away from the riverbank and back to you.
