Day training vs a second walk

Your dog has chewed the baseboard, again. The usual advice is more exercise, and sometimes that is right. But a tired dog and a settled dog are not always the same dog. This page weighs an extra lap of the block against a week of daytime training, honestly, including the cases where the walk is the better answer.

Legs or head

Exercise and training solve different problems.

A second walk is cheap, pleasant and good for both of you. For a young, high-energy dog who simply is not getting enough movement, it may be the first thing to add. The catch is that a walk full of pulling, random sniffing and no clear rules can rehearse the same habits all over again, just twice a day now.

Day Training works on the head as well as the legs. Each weekday includes one-on-one training, obedience development, manners reinforcement, structured socialization, and supervised play and enrichment. Many dogs who chew, dig or pace are short on structure rather than miles. A dog who is destructive only when left alone, or who seems distressed, is a different case: talk to your vet and get a professional assessment.

  • Pulls hard on every walk
  • Ignores cues when excited
  • Settles poorly in the evening

The weekly math

What $650 a week actually covers.

Day Training runs Monday to Friday. Drop-off is between 8:00 and 10:00 am and pick-up is between 5:00 and 7:00 pm, so your dog sleeps at home every night. As plain arithmetic, $650 + GST across five weekdays works out to $130 + GST a day. Once a week you join us for a one-hour go-home session, so the skills move into your hands.

A second walk costs your time instead of money, and if you have the time, that is a fair trade. Day Training is built for dogs who need consistent work while their owners want them home each evening. The consultation is where we look at your dog and say which fits, including telling you when a better walk, done with clearer rules, may be enough.
