Calgary parks
Auburn Bay, Seton and Mahogany dog parks
Three of Calgary's newest southeast communities share one search: where is the dog park. We went to the City's off-leash directory and its site maps. Auburn Bay has a City-listed, fenced area with a City map. Seton and Mahogany have no directory entry, which is a fact about the City's list, not a survey of every patch of grass. Below: what the directory establishes and where the leash rule applies.

The City's directory
One fenced site on the City's list, and what the list does not cover.
The City's off-leash directory lists Auburn Bay in its SE section with a note that the site is fenced, at Auburn Bay Dr. and 52 St. S.E. The City's own map for the site, dated May 2017, draws the fence line and marks off-leash area signs, benches, a garbage can, a doggie fountain and a parking lot, with Auburn Glen Drive S.E., Stoney Trail S.E. and Mahogany labelled around the edges. Seton and Mahogany have no directory entry of their own.
That is as far as the directory goes. It lists City-designated off-leash areas, so a missing entry tells you only that none is listed there; it says nothing about amenities a residents association may run on private land, which we do not describe. On public land in Seton and Mahogany the bylaw default applies: leash on unless a posted sign says otherwise. Inside the Auburn Bay fence, dogs must stay in sight and respond to sight or sound commands, and the parking lot is on-leash.

Leash by default
Living in Seton or Mahogany means a leashed walk by default.
For a dog in Seton or Mahogany, the everyday walk is on public land with no City off-leash designation, so leash manners get used far more than recall. Loose-leash walking, heel, sit, down, stay and place around everyday distractions are what On-Leash Foundations works on in a two-week board and train, $1,865 plus GST, with a follow-up session and a slip lead and training collar to take home. The Auburn Bay parking lot, on-leash even though it serves the site, asks for the same skills.
Inside the fence, the bylaw still asks for a dog that stays in sight and comes to a sight or sound command. Functional Off-Leash, a three-week board and train at $3,030 plus GST with a Micro or Mini Educator remote collar included, works on reliable recall around distractions. On-Leash Foundations and Functional Off-Leash are separate options, not steps; the consultation recommends one, and a smaller one when it is enough. Neither training nor a fence changes where the City allows a dog off leash.

Asked and answered
The questions people ask us.
Is there an Auburn Bay dog park?
Yes. The City of Calgary's off-leash directory lists a fenced Auburn Bay area at Auburn Bay Drive and 52 Street S.E., and the City's site map shows the fence line, signs, benches, a doggie fountain and a parking lot. We keep the leash on in the lot and take it off inside the fence.
Is there a Seton dog park?
The City's off-leash directory has no Seton entry, so we cannot point you to a City-designated off-leash area there, and public park space in Seton is on-leash unless a posted sign says otherwise. The directory covers City sites only; whether a private community amenity exists is outside it, and outside this page.
Where is the Mahogany dog park in Calgary?
The City's directory lists no Mahogany off-leash area. The nearest City-listed site we can name is the fenced Auburn Bay area, whose City map carries the Mahogany label along its edge. A residents-association amenity, if one exists, is private and not something we describe.
Are there off leash parks in the new SE Calgary communities?
On the City's directory, Auburn Bay's fenced site is the one entry among Auburn Bay, Seton and Mahogany. Elsewhere in those communities we keep the leash on until a posted off-leash sign says otherwise. We check the City's online map before a visit and trust the sign over the map.
