Board & train

Board and train for Weimaraners

A Weimaraner has two speeds: shadowing you through the house, or pointing at something in the hedge with total conviction. Many struggle when left alone, and many treat cats, rabbits and squirrels as a calling. That combination makes the breed a lot of dog for a busy household. A live-in program can work on the drive and the alone time together, with honesty about which one leads.

Drive and distress

A grey ghost with a hunting brain and a fear of empty rooms.

Many Weimaraners chase with real intent, and many also pace, whine or chew doorframes when left. Daily one-on-one training channels drive into structured work: recall proofed around distractions, a reliable down at distance, and calm place time. The structured routine and enrichment give a busy mind somewhere to go besides you. Pressure is never the answer for a dog in distress.

Functional Off-Leash, three weeks at $3,030 plus GST, works on recall around distractions and off-leash manners, Educator collar included and taught to you. When panic at departure, injury from escape attempts or nonstop distress is part of the picture, Behaviour Rehab is the program built for anxiety, planned after a full assessment, $4,850 to $5,760 plus GST. Ask your vet as well. Our Weimaraner training guide covers method.

  • Recall proofed around distractions
  • Calm place time between work
  • Down at distance under drive
  • Assessment first for real distress

After the stay

Keeping a Weimaraner busy without feeding the anxiety.

What many owners aim to carry home is a pattern: hard work early, a settle afterwards, and departures kept low-key. Many dogs find that easier to live with, though how your Weimaraner copes alone is never certain. The handover lesson covers the recall cues, how the collar is used on walks and the routine your dog has been living. Many Weimaraners regress a little when routines change, so the same structure helps from the first evening.

At home, the owner keeps exits low-key, gives the nose a job through searches or structured walks, and keeps a long line on in places with wildlife. If distress persists or escalates after the program, that is a reason to reassess with a professional, and free follow-up sessions are part of every board and train. The program choice happens at the consultation, where a smaller option is recommended if it fits.

Asked and answered

The questions people ask us.

Does weimaraner board and train help with separation anxiety?

True separation distress needs a full assessment first. Behaviour Rehab is the program built for anxiety, and it is planned and priced after that assessment. Your vet should be part of the conversation too.

Which board and train weimaraner program works on prey drive?

Functional Off-Leash works on recall around distractions, with an Educator collar taught to you. Advanced Off-Leash adds off-leash heel and distance commands. The consultation recommends one.

What does a weimaraner training program cost?

Functional Off-Leash is $3,030 plus GST, Advanced Off-Leash is $3,940 plus GST, and Behaviour Rehab is $4,850 to $5,760 plus GST after assessment. Private Training is $150 plus GST per one-hour session.

Can I visit my Weimaraner during board and train?

Visits are gently discouraged because they interrupt the routine, which matters for a dog learning to settle without you. You get social-media updates and personal phone or email check-ins instead.
