Board & train

Board and train for Boxers

A Boxer greets the world with all four feet off the ground and a wiggle that starts at the shoulders. That joy is the best thing about the breed, and also the reason guests get bruised shins. Many Boxers stay in full puppy mode well past their first birthday. A live-in program gives that energy somewhere useful to go: a job, a routine, and an off switch.

The Boxer bounce

Kangaroo greetings, door rushes and a puppy brain in a grown body.

Many Boxers jump to say hello, rush any door that opens, and mouth with that famous wiggling enthusiasm. Daily one-on-one sessions teach a calm sit for greetings, a wait at every threshold, and a place command that holds while the doorbell rings. Skills come first through markers and rewards. Because adolescence in this breed often runs long, the work keeps repeating the same calm choices until they feel ordinary to the dog.

On-Leash Foundations, two weeks at $1,865 plus GST, works on loose-leash walking, heel, sit, down and place around everyday distractions, with lifetime phone and email support. Functional Off-Leash, three weeks at $3,030 plus GST, adds recall around distractions and an Educator remote collar taught to you. Boxer pups suit Puppy Fundamentals at $2,775 plus GST. Our Boxer training guide covers method; this page covers program fit.

  • Four paws down for greetings
  • A wait at every door
  • Place that survives the doorbell
  • Exercise with a structured off switch

Living with it

Exercise feeds the Boxer, structure settles it.

A Boxer who is only exercised tends to become a fitter, bouncier Boxer. What carries home is the pairing: a hard play session or brisk walk, then a settle on place. At the handover lesson you practise the greeting routine with your own front door, your own leash and your own voice. Short-nosed dogs can tire quickly in heat, so on warm days the structure matters more than the mileage.

At home the owner keeps the rules the dog learned: nobody greets a jumping Boxer, doors open only after a sit, and the place bed stays the default spot during dinner. Free follow-up sessions help when adolescence tests the edges, which it may. The consultation is where we look at your dog and your household, then recommend a program, and we will say plainly when a lighter option covers it.

Asked and answered

The questions people ask us.

Is boxer board and train worth it for a jumpy adolescent?

It can be, when jumping and door rushing are the daily problem. A live-in program practises calm greetings and thresholds every day, then teaches you to keep them going. The consultation tells you honestly whether you need it.

Which board and train boxer program fits a dog who pulls hard?

On-Leash Foundations is built for dogs who drag and lunge, and works on loose-leash walking and heel. If you also want recall work, Functional Off-Leash covers it. We recommend one after meeting your dog.

What does a boxer training program cost?

On-Leash Foundations is $1,865 plus GST, Puppy Fundamentals is $2,775 plus GST, and Functional Off-Leash is $3,030 plus GST. Private Training is $150 plus GST per hour if you prefer to do the work yourself.

Will board and train calm my Boxer down for good?

No program changes a Boxer's personality, and we would not want it to. Training works on an off switch and on manners your household keeps practising. Free follow-up sessions help you keep it on track.
