Who Private Training is for
Some owners do not want to hand the leash to anyone. They want to learn the timing, the footwork and how to read their own dog, and they will put in the daily reps at home. Private Training exists for that person. Here is how to tell if you are one, and the honest signs that a problem has grown past what an hour of coaching and a week of homework can carry.

The hands-on owner
Built for the owner who would rather learn it than outsource it.
Private Training suits the owner who is home enough to practise daily and curious enough to want the why behind each cue. A session is one hour at $150 + GST, and the work splits between behaviour troubleshooting for the specific thing your dog does, obedience development, and owner education, so the handler improves alongside the dog. The hour is spent on what actually bothers you, whether that is the doorbell, the counter or the leash.
It also suits the goal that is mostly about the relationship: a newly adopted dog who does not trust you yet, or a household where the dog listens to one person and ignores the other. Sessions can put the quieter handler on the leash and build their timing from scratch. Each hour ends with the plan written down and tailored to your rooms and routines, so the practice between sessions is not left to memory or to whoever remembers the cue differently.
- Home enough to practise daily
- Wants to learn the handling yourself
- One specific problem to troubleshoot
- Building trust with a new dog
When volume wins
Some problems need more daily reps than an owner can give.
There is a point where the limiting factor stops being knowledge and becomes hours. Loose-leash walking that unravels at every squirrel, or recall that works in the yard and nowhere else, tends to need repetition in many places and many times a day. If your week cannot hold that, an hour of coaching followed by solo practice can leave both of you frustrated. Day Training at $650 + GST per week gives the dog daily one-on-one work; board and train adds the overnight routine.
Behaviour that involves fear, reactivity or aggression is the clearest case. Private sessions can troubleshoot and set up management at home, but the structured, paced work those dogs often need is what Behaviour Rehab is built for, and that begins with a full assessment, not a lesson. None of this is decided on a web page. The consultation looks at the dog, the household and the hours you honestly have, then names the program that fits, including coaching alone when that is enough.

Asked and answered
The questions people ask us.
Is it better to do private lessons or send my dog away for training?
It depends on the owner more than the dog. Private Training suits the person who wants to do the handling and has daily time to practise; a board and train suits a goal that needs more daily volume than the household can supply. The consultation tells you which describes your situation.
How much is a private dog training session in Calgary?
A Private Training session with Northline K9 is $150 + GST for one hour. That includes the written weekly plan customized to your home and honest guidance on whether a different program fits better.
Can private training help with my dog's behaviour problems?
It can troubleshoot a specific behaviour and set up management at home, with a written plan to practise. Fear, reactivity and aggression are handled differently: those are what Behaviour Rehab is built for, and a full assessment comes first. Dogs with bite histories are accepted into Behaviour Rehab after that assessment, so mention any bite at the consultation.
What if I can't practise every day between sessions?
Say so plainly. The plan is customized to your home and your week, and if the honest answer is that the daily reps will not happen, the consultation may point to Day Training or a board and train instead, where the daily work is done for you and handed back in a lesson.
