Program fit
Who On-Leash Foundations is for
Every program has a dog it was designed around. For On-Leash Foundations it is the dog who is fine in the house and a nightmare on the end of a leash, the dog whose family stopped enforcing anything somewhere in adolescence, and the dog who is not aggressive, not anxious, just untrained. If one of those is yours, read on. If none is, the second half tells you where to look.

Three owners
The dragger, the reset and the adolescent.
The dragger is the obvious one: a dog who leans into the collar from the driveway to the corner, crosses in front of you to reach a smell, and turns a squirrel into a shoulder injury. The program works on loose-leash walking and heel with a slip lead and training collar that come home with the dog, introduced properly and then taught to you in the handover lesson, so the equipment and technique at home are the ones the dog learned on.
The reset household is less obvious. Nobody is dragged, but the dog barges the door when the bell rings, surfs the counter, and has not held a sit since it was a puppy. Place, sit, down and stay are the tools here, and two weeks of a structured routine tends to give a household a clean line to restart from. The adolescent is the third: big enough to be a problem, young enough that nothing is set, and in need of structure more than correction.
- Leans into the collar all walk
- Door barging and counter surfing
- Adolescent with no structure yet
- Slip lead and collar come home

Two neighbouring programs, and what stays on your plate.
If the goal is a dog off leash at the river or the campsite, this is a step, not the destination: Functional Off-Leash ($3,030 + GST for 3 weeks) is built around recall under distraction with an Educator collar included, and it is for dogs whose manners are already decent. If the dog is still a puppy in its key learning window, Puppy Fundamentals (3 weeks, $2,775 + GST) adds crate comfort, name recognition and structured socialization to the leash work.
What you keep doing is the part nobody advertises. The daily walk is done on the slip lead and collar the dog came home with, the way the handover lesson showed you, not just when the mood strikes. Place is used at the door and at dinner, because an unused cue fades. The free follow-up session is for the wobble that shows up at home, and lifetime phone and email support means a question long after graduation gets answered, not invoiced.

Asked and answered
The questions people ask us.
Is On-Leash Foundations right for a dog that pulls on the leash?
That is the dog it was designed around. The two weeks work on loose-leash walking and heel with a slip lead and training collar, then the handover lesson teaches you the same technique. If the pulling comes with lunging and barking at other dogs, say so at the consultation, because that may call for an assessment first.
Is On-Leash Foundations for puppies or adult dogs?
Adolescents and adults without aggression or anxiety are who it is built for. A puppy still in its key learning window is often better served by Puppy Fundamentals, which adds crate comfort, name recognition and socialization. Age matters less than what the dog is currently practising.
What is the difference between On-Leash Foundations and Functional Off-Leash?
On-Leash Foundations is two weeks and $1,865 + GST, built around the walk, place and everyday distractions on a leash. Functional Off-Leash is three weeks and $3,030 + GST, built around recall under distraction, with the remote collar included, and meant for a dog whose leash manners already exist. The consultation picks, and recommends the smaller one if it covers the need.
What does the owner keep doing after On-Leash Foundations?
Walk the dog daily on the equipment it came home with, using the heel and the leash handling from the handover lesson. Ask for place at the door and at dinner so the cues stay in use. Use the free follow-up session and the lifetime phone and email support when something slips.
