Program fit
Who Day Training is for
Some dogs need consistent daily work and are not getting it between an owner's meetings and commute. Some owners cannot picture the house without the dog in it at night. Day Training is built for both at once: a full weekday of structured, one-on-one training, then the drive home and the couch. This page is about recognizing whether that describes your household, and what to choose when it does not.

The right fit
A dog with weekdays to fill and an owner with evenings to keep.
The owner this suits works a weekday schedule and wants the training to fit around it, not the other way round. The dog can arrive any time between 8 and 10 am and goes home between 5 and 7 pm, Monday to Friday, so nobody has to book time off. Evenings and weekends stay yours. The dog sleeps in its own bed, eats its own dinner, and you keep the relationship warm while the structured work happens during the day.
The dog this suits is one whose manners need daily, consistent reinforcement rather than a weekend crash course: the adolescent who has learned sit but often forgets it the moment a visitor arrives, or the dog whose leash skills fall apart on a busy sidewalk. The program offers one-on-one obedience work, structured socialization and supervised play and enrichment. The weekly one-hour go-home lesson puts you in the handler's position, so the weekday habits have somewhere to live at home.
- Works a Monday to Friday schedule
- Wants the dog home every night

Two other doors
When the goal is a board and train, or the owner wants the leash.
Some goals are published as board and train programs: crate comfort in Puppy Fundamentals, reliable recall around distractions in Functional Off-Leash, and Behaviour Rehab, built for anxiety, reactivity and aggression and planned after a full assessment. In a board and train, the dog lives the structured routine it is learning around the clock. If one of those goals is the one you care about most, raise it at the consultation and we will talk through both options plainly.
The other door is Private Training: $150 + GST for a one-hour session and a written plan customized to your home. It suits the owner who wants to be the one teaching the dog, and who has the daily time to practise. Day Training is for the owner with evenings but no free weekdays; private coaching is for the owner who wants the leash in their own hand. The consultation points to the smaller option when it covers the goal.

Asked and answered
The questions people ask us.
Is day training better than board and train?
Neither is better; they are built for different goals. Day Training suits manners and obedience that need daily reinforcement while the dog keeps living at home, and each board and train is built around its own published goals, such as crate comfort in Puppy Fundamentals. The consultation recommends a program based on the dog in front of us and the goal you name.
Does my dog have to come every day for day training?
The program runs Monday to Friday, with drop-off between 8 and 10 am and pick-up between 5 and 7 pm. It is priced by the week, $650 + GST, and built around that daily consistency. Whether that rhythm fits your household is part of the consultation.
What does the weekly go-home lesson cover?
It is a one-hour session each week where you take the handler's position and practise what your dog has been working on. The lesson works on cues, leash handling and timing, so the weekday work has somewhere to continue in your evenings and weekends.
Is day training good for puppies?
It can suit a puppy whose owner is home in the evenings and wants daily obedience development and structured socialization during the work day. If crate comfort and early leash manners are the main goals, Puppy Fundamentals is built around those as a three-week board and train. The consultation weighs the two against the puppy in front of us.
