E-collar education
What is an Educator remote collar?
Owners read the program inclusions, see Micro or Mini Educator remote collar included, and ask what that is. Educator is a brand of remote training collar. The collar is not what teaches recall, heel or a down at distance; the daily marker-and-reward work in the program does that. The collar is how the dog keeps hearing you once the leash is gone. Here is what the device is and what comes home with it.

The device itself
Two pieces, three ways to signal, one job.
The kit is a hand-held remote and a receiver that rides on a collar strap around the dog's neck, with contact points resting against the skin. The remote sends one of three kinds of signal: a tone, a vibration, or a stimulation the dog can feel. Educator collars offer many stimulation levels, which matters because dogs differ enormously in sensitivity. Functional Off-Leash includes a Micro or Mini Educator; Advanced Off-Leash includes a remote collar as well.
What the collar is for is narrower than people assume. It is a communication tool at distance, used once the dog already understands the behaviour on a leash with markers and rewards. The signal says the same thing your voice says, from further away and through more distraction. It does not teach recall, and it cannot fix a dog who was never taught one. Think of it as a longer leash made of attention, not a shortcut.
- Hand-held remote plus receiver
- Tone, vibration and stimulation options
- Used once the behaviour is known
- Included in both off-leash programs
What comes home
You leave with the collar, the lessons and the follow-ups.
Functional Off-Leash is a three-week board and train at $3,030 plus GST. It includes the Micro or Mini Educator remote collar, free follow-up sessions, and owner education on using every tool properly, with reliable recall around distractions and off-leash house manners on the curriculum. Advanced Off-Leash runs four weeks at $3,940 plus GST and includes the remote collar, two free follow-up sessions, and owner education and handover lessons, with off-leash heel and sit, stay and down at distance alongside.
Owner education covers the device itself. You learn how it fits, how to check the contact points, how to charge and pair it, and how to read your dog so the signal lands as information rather than surprise. We also show you where the tone and vibration options fit your dog's plan, if they do. Every tool we use is introduced properly and taught to the owner; the collar is no exception.

Asked and answered
The questions people ask us.
What does an Educator collar do?
It lets you send a tone, a vibration or a stimulation signal from a hand-held remote to a receiver on your dog's collar. In our programs it carries commands the dog already knows, at a distance and around distraction. It is a signalling device, not a teaching one.
Is the Educator e-collar included in the price?
Yes, for the two off-leash programs. Functional Off-Leash at $3,030 plus GST includes a Micro or Mini Educator, and Advanced Off-Leash at $3,940 plus GST includes the remote collar as well. Both also include owner education on using it.
Why do you use Educator collars specifically?
Because the signal can be matched to the individual dog across many levels, and because tone and vibration are available alongside stimulation. That flexibility lets us fit the tool to the dog rather than the dog to the tool. Honest recommendations still come first, and a smaller program without a remote collar is recommended when that is enough.
Can you buy an Educator collar and train your dog yourself?
You can buy one anywhere, but the collar alone teaches nothing, and introduced badly it can confuse a dog. Private Training at $150 plus GST per one-hour session gives you a professional reading over your shoulder and a written plan for the week. A consultation is where we say honestly which route fits.
