Board and train

What happens at the Behaviour Rehab assessment

Every other program carries a fixed published price. Behaviour Rehab does not, because a plan for anxiety, reactivity or aggression is written for one dog after a full assessment, and the price follows the plan. This page keeps two things apart: what we have published about the assessment, which is less than a step-by-step script, and the preparation and questions we suggest so nobody arrives guessing.

What is published

Assessment first, then the plan, then the price.

Behaviour Rehab is a five to six week board and train built for anxiety, reactivity and aggression: the barkers, the lungers, the hiders and the growlers. It begins with a full behaviour assessment, and the program is customized to the dog once that assessment is done. The price is set then, within the published range of $4,850 to $5,760 plus GST, depending on what the plan for that dog needs. A bite history does not close the door: Behaviour Rehab accepts those dogs after a full assessment.

What the program then works on is published too: reactivity work, anxiety rehabilitation, fear-based behaviour work, confidence building and structured socialization, across five to six weeks of daily, individualized, one-on-one work. Two free follow-up sessions come after it, along with in-depth owner education, so the owner learns the why and not only the what. What we have not published is a step-by-step account of the assessment itself, so this page does not pretend to one.

  • Full assessment before any plan
  • Price set within the published range
  • Bite histories accepted after assessment
  • Two follow-ups and owner education

Before attending

Notes to gather and questions to ask first.

Preparation is optional, and none of it involves getting close to a trigger. We suggest jotting down, from memory and in ordinary words, when the behaviour started, what tends to set it off, where and with whom it happens, what has been tried, and anything a vet has said about it. Video that already exists can come along too; we suggest never staging an incident to film one, since pushing a dog past the point where it reacts, just for footage, helps nobody.

The questions we suggest asking before attending are the ones this page cannot answer for you: how the assessment is run and how long to set aside, whether the dog is handled during it and how growling or other warning signals are treated, what to bring, and when the plan and price are confirmed afterward. Asking in advance is fair, and it means the assessment itself can be about the dog rather than about logistics.

Asked and answered

The questions people ask us.

What is the Behaviour Rehab assessment?

It is the full look at the dog that comes before the Behaviour Rehab plan and price exist. The program runs five to six weeks and is customized to the dog after the assessment, with the price set inside $4,850 to $5,760 plus GST. We have not published a step-by-step description of it, so we suggest asking what it involves before attending.

What happens at a dog behaviour assessment?

In general, a behaviour assessment gathers the dog's history and looks at the dog with that history in mind. For ours, we have not published the procedure, so the honest answer is to ask how it is run, whether the dog is handled, and how warning signals such as growling are treated. Those are fair questions, and the answers matter more than a generic description.

Does an aggressive dog need an assessment before board and train?

Behaviour Rehab is the program built for anxiety, reactivity and aggression, and it starts with a full assessment; the plan and the price are set after it. Behaviour Rehab accepts dogs with bite histories once a full assessment has been done. The consultation is where we recommend a program, so we suggest describing the behaviour there first.

Is the assessment the same as the consultation?

No. The consultation is where we recommend a program, and we recommend a smaller one when it is enough. The assessment belongs to Behaviour Rehab only: it is the full look at the dog that lets that program be planned and priced, within $4,850 to $5,760 plus GST.

Ask before you attend

Book a consultation to begin. If Behaviour Rehab is recommended, the full assessment follows and the plan and price are set from it.
