What age can a dog start board and train?
Age is the first thing people ask, and there is no single number. The better question is what a board and train would be teaching, and whether the dog in front of us is ready to learn it. A young puppy, a teenage dog with selective hearing, a settled adult with old habits and a grey-muzzled senior all fit somewhere in our programs. They just do not fit in the same one.

Puppy Fundamentals is a three-week board and train at $2,775 plus GST, and the entry gate is medical rather than a birthday. Your vet decides when the vaccination series allows a puppy to safely meet other dogs and new environments; that is typically after the second round, so check with your vet before you book. Once cleared, the program covers crate comfort including nights, the name, leash manners, sit, down and place, and structured socialization.
Adult programs have no upper age limit. On-Leash Foundations, Functional Off-Leash, Advanced Off-Leash and Behaviour Rehab all take a grown dog, whether that dog is a gangly adolescent or well into middle age. For seniors we ask for a fitness check from your vet before booking. Stiff hips, failing hearing or a heart condition do not rule a dog out, but they change how long sessions run, what surfaces we work on and which tools make sense.

What shifts with age
How the training changes as the dog gets older.
With a puppy, the job is prevention and exposure. Nothing is broken yet, so the three weeks go into building a crate the puppy likes, a name that turns the head, and calm experiences with new surfaces, sounds and dogs before fear has a chance to set in. With an adolescent, the job flips to proofing. The dog knows sit; it just does not believe you mean it near a squirrel. That is where Functional Off-Leash and its Educator e-collar come in.
With an adult, there is usually something to undo first. Habits have had years to harden, so an adult program spends its early days interrupting the old pattern before layering the new one, and a dog with real anxiety, reactivity or aggression belongs in Behaviour Rehab. With a senior, the plan bends around the body: shorter sessions, softer footing, more rest between repetitions, and tools chosen to suit. Old dogs learn. They just deserve a gentler schedule.

What age can a dog do board and train?
There is no fixed number. The gate for puppies is vaccination status, confirmed by your vet and typically after the second round; for adults there is no age limit at all; for seniors we ask for a fitness check first.
Is my puppy too young for board and train?
Ask your vet, not us. If the vaccination series has reached the point where the puppy can safely meet other dogs and new places, Puppy Fundamentals is designed for exactly that stage, crate nights included. If not, a short wait and a Private Training session at $150 to get you started at home is the better plan.
Can old dogs do board and train?
Yes. We ask for a fitness check from your vet before booking, then build the day around the dog: shorter sessions, more rest, and tools that suit an older body. A senior with one nagging leash habit often does well in the two-week On-Leash Foundations program.
What age is best for board and train?
The best age is whenever the problem shows up, because waiting rarely makes it smaller. A puppy gets prevention, an adolescent gets proofing, and an adult gets the old habit unpicked. The consultation is where we match the dog's age and history to a program, and we will say if the smaller one is enough.
