Board and train
Does board and train help with house training an adult dog?
An adult dog that pees indoors is a frustrating problem, and it often arrives alongside another one: the same dog pulls on leash or barges the door, and the hope is that a program booked for manners sorts out the accidents too. The short answer is that house training is not on any program's list. Here is what the routine includes, what it leaves untouched, and what to ask first.

Published scope
What the routine covers and what it does not.
Every board and train includes daily one-on-one training, a structured routine, socialization, enrichment, updates to you, a handover lesson and free follow-up sessions. No program lists house training as a skill. On-Leash Foundations, two weeks at $1,865 plus GST, works on loose-leash walking, heel, sit, stay, down, place and everyday distractions. The only related item is crate comfort in Puppy Fundamentals, plus the crate-training guide in the welcome package. The honest scope for an adult dog is a routine, not a potty curriculum.
A structured routine is a predictable shape to the dog's day while it stays with us. It is not a house-training method, and we cannot promise fewer accidents during the stay or after it. Whatever is behind the accidents, the pattern shows up in your hallway, your work hours and your back door, and a board and train changes none of those. An adult that was reliably clean and has started having accidents may have a physical reason, so ask your vet before booking anything.
- Routine included, house training not listed
- No promise on accident counts
- Your home stays the same
- Sudden accidents, vet first

The questions that size the help.
What comes home from any board and train is the handover lesson, where you learn what the dog has been working on and how to keep it going, plus free follow-up sessions. For an adult dog with accidents, bring practical questions to the consultation. Are the accidents new or long-standing, and has a vet ruled out a physical cause? Is the dog also pulling or lunging on leash, which is what On-Leash Foundations is built for?
If the accidents are the only problem, there is a smaller option to ask about. Private Training is $150 plus GST per one-hour session with a written weekly plan customized to your home, built for hands-on owners who want to do the training themselves with a professional reading over their shoulder. Which program fits is settled at the consultation, and we recommend the smaller program whenever it is enough. The step-by-step method belongs in our house-training guide for adult dogs, not here.

Asked and answered
The questions people ask us.
Will board and train potty train an adult dog?
Not as a listed skill; no program includes adult house training in its curriculum. Every board and train includes a structured routine and a handover lesson, and we cannot promise what that does for accidents at home. If the accidents are new, ask your vet first.
Is board and train worth it just for house training an adult dog?
House training is not something any program lists, so we would not present a board and train as a house-training fix. Private Training at $150 plus GST per one-hour session, with a written weekly plan, is the smaller option to ask about. The program is recommended at the consultation, and the smaller one when it is enough.
How is house training an adult dog different from a puppy?
For a puppy, crate comfort is a published skill in Puppy Fundamentals, and the welcome package includes a crate-training guide. No other program lists anything equivalent, so for an adult the structured routine is the only related piece. An adult that was clean and has started having accidents also raises a question for your vet before it raises one for us.
What if my dog still has accidents after board and train?
Use the free follow-up sessions that come with every board and train, and with On-Leash Foundations the lifetime phone and email support as well. Tell us what is happening and when. If the dog was clean and the accidents are sudden, call your vet before you call us.
