Board and train
Does board and train help with barking?
The honest answer to this one begins with a distinction. A dog who fires off at the window when the mail arrives and a dog who cannot settle once the house empties may be dealing with different things entirely. Our board and train programs can work on a competing skill for the first dog. For the second, Behaviour Rehab begins with a full assessment, and the consultation is where we recommend anything.

Which bark is it
What a two-week program works on for a window barker.
Alert barking, the dog who spots something and announces it, is the kind a manners program can speak to. On-Leash Foundations, two weeks at $1,865 + GST, works on a place command, sit, down and stay, and manners around everyday distractions, taught with markers and rewards first. Place gives the dog a specific spot to go and something to do there. How it holds up at your window is what the handover lesson is for, not something we promise.
Barking that seems tied to being left alone, or that comes with pacing, drooling or damage, is a different conversation. Ask your vet first if the barking comes with those signs. Behaviour Rehab is built for anxiety, reactivity and aggression: five to six weeks at $4,850 to $5,760 + GST, planned after a full assessment, with two free follow-up sessions and in-depth owner education. The consultation is where we say whether that, or something smaller, is the right fit.
- Place command and everyday distractions
- A skill, not promised silence
- Full assessment before Behaviour Rehab
- Vet first for distress signs
Back at the window
The street is still there when the dog gets home.
A board and train cannot change what your dog sees from the living room. The street, the mail carrier and the neighbour's dog are still there when the dog comes home, and so is the household's reaction to the first bark. What we can hand over is the skill, at the handover lesson, plus free follow-up sessions for whatever your street is doing to it. The rest is shared work, not a test you pass or fail.
Calgary housing adds pressure. In an infill duplex, a townhouse row or a condo tower, a window barker becomes a neighbour matter quickly, and many owners want the dog home each night. Day Training is built for that: $650 + GST per week, Monday to Friday, with a weekly one-hour go-home lesson to practise where the barking actually happens. Whether it fits is a consultation question, and a smaller program is recommended when it is enough.

Asked and answered
The questions people ask us.
Does board and train help with barking?
It can help with the part that is a missing skill. Our programs work on a place command and manners around everyday distractions, and the handover lesson and free follow-up sessions are where that work meets your house. We cannot promise that barking will stop, and barking with signs of distress is a question for your vet first.
Is there a board and train for a barking dog?
Not as a separate program. Barking is worked on inside whichever program the consultation recommends, and a smaller program is recommended when it is enough. Behaviour Rehab is built for anxiety, reactivity and aggression, and is planned and priced after a full assessment.
Can board and train stop excessive barking?
No trainer can promise that, and we do not. What a program can do is teach a place command and self-control around everyday distractions, then hand those skills to you. Whether the barking eases depends on the dog, the triggers at home and the practice that follows.
Will my dog start barking again after board and train?
We cannot predict how any particular dog will behave once home. Every board and train includes a handover lesson and free follow-up sessions, and that is where we look at what your window is doing. If barking when alone appears or worsens, ask your vet.
