Board and train
Does board and train fix jumping on people?
Jumping on people is a fair thing to ask a training program about, and an easy one to be honest about. A board and train works on sit, stay and place, and hands those to you in a handover lesson. It cannot come home with you to answer the door. This page is about what a program covers, what you take over, and what to ask before booking.

Program scope
What the curriculum covers, and what it leaves to you.
Two programs list the skills most relevant to a dog who jumps. Puppy Fundamentals, three weeks at $2,775 + GST, lists sit and stay, down and stay, place, leash manners and socialization. On-Leash Foundations, two weeks at $1,865 + GST, lists sit, stay, down, place and working around everyday distractions. Neither lists jumping as a line item. What a dog works on is a set of positions; what you decide is when those positions get asked for at home.
A program cannot change who comes through your door. Socialization is part of every stay, but your neighbours, your kids' friends and your delivery driver are not, and those are the greetings you care about. The handover lesson passes the work to you, and free follow-up sessions are there for what comes up afterwards. We can work on the position; whether it gets asked for at your door is up to your household, and we would rather say so before you book.

Buying questions
Which option fits, and what to ask before paying.
Board and train is not the only option for greetings. Private Training is a one-hour session at $150 + GST with a written weekly plan for your home, built for hands-on owners who want to do the training themselves. Day Training is $650 + GST per week, Monday to Friday, with a weekly one-hour go-home session, for owners who want the dog home every night. We recommend the program at the consultation, and we recommend a smaller one when it is enough.
Whichever way you lean, a few questions are worth asking before you pay for anything. What skills does the program list, and which of them would you use at the door? What does the handover lesson cover for your dog? And the honest one: what happens to the training if greetings at home do not go the way they went in the handover lesson? We would rather answer that plainly at the consultation than confidently on a web page.

Asked and answered
The questions people ask us.
Does board and train fix jumping?
We would not promise that. A board and train works on sit, stay and place, skills that give a dog something to do other than jump, and the handover lesson passes that work to you. Whether it holds at your door depends on what happens at your door, and the free follow-up sessions included with every board and train are there for that.
Which board and train is right for a jumping dog?
Puppy Fundamentals lists sit and stay, down and stay, place and socialization over three weeks at $2,775 + GST. On-Leash Foundations lists sit, stay, down, place and working around everyday distractions over two weeks at $1,865 + GST. The consultation is where the program is recommended for your dog.
Is there a training program for a dog who jumps on guests?
Yes, in three formats. Board and train works on sit, stay and place and includes a handover lesson; Private Training is a one-hour session at $150 + GST with a written weekly plan; Day Training is $650 + GST per week with a weekly go-home session. Which fits is a consultation question.
Will my dog stop jumping after coming home?
We cannot promise that. Habits that have paid off for a long time often resurface when a dog is excited, and a favourite person at the door is about as exciting as it gets. The handover lesson and free follow-up sessions are there for what comes up once your dog is home.
