Are Cockapoos easy to train?
A Cockapoo often treats its owner as the most interesting thing in the house. That focus makes early lessons pleasant, yet it can also produce a dog who narrates the street from the window and follows you into the bathroom. This page covers what that sensitivity means for training, how barking and alone time are usually approached, and where deeper anxiety fits.

Soft and watchful
Sensitive dogs read tone before they read cues.
Many Cockapoos notice a sigh, a raised voice or a tense leash long before they process a word. That sensitivity is useful: a quiet marker and a well-timed reward often land fast. It also means harsh corrections or a frustrated handler can shut a soft dog down. We teach with markers and rewards first, and any tool is matched to the individual dog and introduced properly.
Barking is where many owners first feel stuck. A Cockapoo at the front window may be alerting, asking for attention or simply bored, and each needs a different answer. Management comes first: block the view, give the dog a settled spot away from the glass, and reward quiet before the noise starts. A growl or warning is information worth keeping, so it is never punished.
- Block street views first
- Reward quiet before barking
- Keep handling calm and even
- Short, upbeat practice sessions
Time apart
Being alone is a skill built gradually.
Because many Cockapoos attach strongly, alone time can be hard. Some dogs fuss briefly; others show signs such as drooling, scratching at exits or nonstop vocalizing. For signs like those, start with your vet to rule out medical causes, then talk to a professional. Behaviour may temporarily increase as routines change, and persistence or escalation is a reason to reassess.
When worry about being left goes beyond everyday clinginess, Behaviour Rehab is the program built for anxiety and fear-based behaviour. It runs five to six weeks at $4,850 to $5,760 + GST, planned and priced after a full assessment, with in-depth owner education so you learn the why behind each step. Not every clingy Cockapoo needs it. We make the program recommendation at the consultation, including a smaller option when it does the job.

Asked and answered
The questions people ask us.
Are Cockapoos easy to train?
Many are, because they tend to be people-focused and responsive to praise and food. Keeping sessions short and calm usually suits their softer side.
Are Cockapoos hard to train?
They can be when barking or separation distress takes over the household. Those issues tend to need management, patient practice and sometimes professional help rather than more obedience drills.
How should training start with a Cockapoo puppy?
Puppy Fundamentals is a three-week board and train at $2,775 plus GST covering crate comfort, name recognition, place and structured socialization. The consultation is where a format gets recommended, and we point you to a lighter option whenever it will do the job.
Should I see a vet about my Cockapoo's barking or anxiety?
If the behaviour changes suddenly or looks like distress, yes. Your vet can check for pain or medical causes, and health questions about the breed are theirs to answer.
