Puppy training in Calgary SW

A puppy headed for life in Altadore or Lakeview will eventually walk past River Park's gates, and everything about that moment depends on what came first. Puppy Fundamentals stacks the deck. Over three weeks of daily one-on-one work, your puppy learns to settle in a crate overnight, walk on a loose leash, come to its name and hold sit, down and place, with every new skill marked and rewarded until it sticks.
Socialization is the quiet centrepiece. Your puppy is exposed to new dogs, people, sounds and surfaces in structured doses, learning that the world is interesting rather than alarming. That is a different thing from being swarmed at a dog park. The program closes with an owner handover lesson so the skills transfer to your hands, and a follow-up session within 60 days is part of the price.

River Park and Sandy Beach sit above the Elbow like a magnet, and they are one of the busiest off-leash scenes in the city. That is precisely why your puppy should not start there. Off-leash regulars move fast and greet hard, and a puppy without recall or confidence learns the wrong lessons in minutes. Put River Park on the calendar for later, after neutrality and recall are real.
The better early classrooms are quieter: on-leash loops in North Glenmore Park, the Weaselhead Flats where leashes are the rule, and the west end of Fish Creek on a weekday. Marda Loop's sidewalks offer people-watching in small doses. And remember the Calgary winter math: your puppy's key socialization months may land in January, so short, frequent, bundled-up outings beat waiting for patio season.

Are there puppy classes in Calgary SW?
We get asked this from Marda Loop to Shawnessy, and the answer is that we deliberately do not run classes. A group format spreads one trainer across many puppies; our board and train does the opposite. Your puppy gets individual training every single day.
What does puppy school in Calgary SW cost with you?
Puppy Fundamentals is $2,775 plus GST for the full three-week board and train, including the slip lead, training collar, handover lesson and a follow-up session within 60 days. Private sessions are $150 an hour if you want coaching at home instead.
Is River Park okay for a young puppy?
Not as a starting point. It is a busy off-leash park, and a puppy without solid recall or dog neutrality can get overwhelmed quickly. Build those skills first, then introduce busy parks gradually and on your terms.
Will our puppy be socialized during the program?
Yes, and carefully. Socialization in Puppy Fundamentals is structured: new people, sounds, surfaces and steady dogs, introduced at your puppy's pace with a trainer reading the whole interaction. The goal is a puppy that stays thinking around excitement.
