City rules cap a pathway leash at two metres and forbid riding a bike with your dog, which tells you what to expect: fast bikes, slow strollers and your dog somewhere in between. The first outcome we train is a heel on the reservoir side that does not drift, and a sit at pathway crossings that holds while a pace line goes by.
Drop into the Weaselhead Flats and the traffic changes to wildlife. The City lists it as a natural environment park with no off-leash areas at all, and its own park page notes the flats offer the best chance in the city's park system to see a black bear. A Lakeview dog needs neutrality, not just obedience: nose up, eyes on you, leash slack while something crosses the trail. Under the mature trees on your own street, the same calm carries past neighbours and their dogs.
