Dog training in High River
High River asks a dog to be two dogs at once: relaxed on small-town sidewalks where strollers pass close, then steady on rural edges where horses are part of the scenery. Training for that has to cover both worlds, and it has to hold along the Highwood River pathways too. We train from Calgary, and the format most High River owners choose means the highway only happens twice.
Getting here
Past Okotoks once, then we take it from there.
The drive from High River runs 40 to 50 minutes, up past Okotoks to our Calgary facility. That is too far for weekly lessons to feel sustainable, which is why board & train is what we recommend to most High River owners: your dog lives with us for the length of the program while you get on with normal life at home, following along through our updates.
We are Calgary-based and will not dress that up as local. For owners outside the city, though, dropping off is honestly the better fit: consistency comes from us working your dog daily, not from you fighting traffic after work. Every program wraps with a handover lesson where the skills move to your hands, and free follow-up sessions cover the wobbles that show up back on your own streets.

Town and country
Steady past strollers, sensible around horses.
The Highwood River pathways through town are the daily test: water on one side, other dogs coming the other way, and a dog who wants to greet all of it. Loose-leash walking under distraction is exactly what our two-week Complete On-Leash Foundations program ($1,865) is built for: heel, sit, down, stay and place, proofed around everyday chaos rather than in a quiet training hall.
Then there are the rural edges, where the distractions get bigger and slower: horses at fence lines, trucks pulling trailers, wide ditches full of smells. A dog who lunges at a horse is a genuine hazard to everyone involved, so we teach neutrality: markers and rewards first, the right tool for that particular dog second, and real-world proofing before graduation. If your dog's reactions go beyond excitement, our Behaviour Rehab program ($4,850 to $5,760) is customized after a full assessment.

Is there a dog trainer near High River?
We work with High River dogs from our Calgary facility, about 40 to 50 minutes north. Because everything we do is one-on-one, most owners here pick board & train and make the drive just twice. Private sessions at $150 an hour are an option if you prefer to train alongside us.
What does dog obedience training for a High River dog involve?
Obedience here has to hold on small-town sidewalks and rural roads alike. We build the core skills with rewards and clear marker training, then test them around genuine distractions, from passing dogs on the pathways to horses at a distance. Owner education is built in so the obedience survives the trip home.
How long would our dog be away?
Two weeks for on-leash foundations, three for puppy or off-leash work, four for advanced off-leash, and five to six for behaviour rehab. You receive updates the whole way through, and it all ends with a handover lesson at pick-up.
Will the training hold up around horses and livestock?
We proof skills out in the world, and neutrality around big animals is part of that for rural dogs. The handover teaches you how to maintain it at home. If something slips later, a follow-up session sorts it, at no charge.
