Board and train vs doggy daycare
It is an easy mix-up. You hand over the leash, and someone else takes the dog for a while. From the parking lot the two look identical. Inside, they could hardly be more different. Daycare hands the dog to a group and a playground. Board and train hands the dog to a trainer, a routine and a bed under our roof, and every hour of the day is part of the lesson.

Why they blur
Same drop-off, a completely different week.
Owners conflate the two because the surface is the same: a drop-off, a stranger holding the leash, a dog that comes back worn out. Daycare stops there. The dog spends the day in a group, plays until it flops, and heads home at closing. The staff are supervising, not teaching, and the behaviour the dog rehearses all day is whatever the group rewards, which is usually noise and speed.
Board and train is sleep-away immersion. The dog lives with us for the length of the program, trains one-on-one daily, eats and rests on a schedule, and is socialized around steady, well-mannered dogs on purpose rather than by crowd. Evenings and mornings count too: crate comfort overnight, a calm exit through the door, a walk before breakfast. You get updates throughout, a handover lesson at the end, and free follow-up sessions so the changes hold once the dog is back on your couch.

Decide by goal
Choose the drop-off that matches what you want back.
If the goal is company and exercise for a dog that already behaves, daycare does the job and board and train is overkill. If the goal is a dog that walks on a loose leash, holds a place, comes back off leash or stops reacting to strangers, board and train is built for it. Complete On-Leash Foundations takes two weeks from $1,865 plus GST, the off-leash programs three to four, and Behaviour Rehab five to six weeks after a full assessment.
Daycare can undo training when arousal has become the habit. A dog that spent two weeks learning to settle can relearn frantic greetings in a few afternoons of group play. That does not make daycare bad; it makes sequencing matter. Finish the program, use the free follow-ups, and if the dog still needs a social outlet, add daycare in small doses and pull back the moment the frantic greetings return. Graduates can also board with us at $65 per night, where the routine continues.

Board and train vs daycare: which one actually changes behaviour?
Board and train. The dog lives with a trainer and works one-on-one every day, so the new behaviour is rehearsed far more often than at any daycare. Daycare changes energy levels for an evening, not habits.
Should a puppy go to daycare or board and train?
For a young puppy that needs manners, crate comfort and safe socialization, Puppy Fundamentals is a three-week board and train at $2,775 plus GST. Daycare can come later, once the puppy can settle and greet politely.
Board and train or doggy daycare for a reactive dog?
Not daycare. A reactive dog in a group rehearses exactly the behaviour you want gone, and the other dogs pay for it. Behaviour Rehab is a five to six week board and train, $4,850 to $5,760 plus GST after a full assessment, with two follow-ups.
Can a dog go to daycare after a board and train?
Yes, with care. Use the handover lesson and follow-ups first so the new habits are solid at home, then introduce daycare one day at a time. If the jumping and shrieking come back, take a break from daycare and let the training settle.
