Before you book
Is board and train lazy, or outsourcing my dog?
Somewhere between booking the consultation and handing over the leash, a quiet doubt tends to surface: a good owner would do this themselves. It is worth taking seriously, because the answer says something real about how board and train works. A program can do the repetitive part of training for you. It cannot love your dog for you, and it does not try to.

What gets outsourced
You are handing over the repetitions, not the relationship.
Teaching a dog to walk on a loose leash is not one lesson. It is the same short exercise repeated many times, around more distractions each time, before the habit is worth much. That volume of repetition is the part a board and train takes on. On-Leash Foundations is two weeks of daily one-on-one training inside a structured routine, working on loose-leash walking, heel, sit, stay and down, place, and everyday distractions. Fitting that around a job and a household is the hard part.
What no program can outsource is the rest of the dog's life. Whether the dog is allowed on the couch, who feeds it, what happens at the front door when guests arrive: those are household rules, and they are yours. The handover lesson is owner instruction, where we teach you the cues and tools the dog has been working with, because the practice continues at home. Free follow-up sessions are included as support for when something wobbles; Advanced Off-Leash and Behaviour Rehab list two.
- The household rules stay yours
- Practice continues after the stay
- The handover lesson teaches you
- Free follow-ups for support
Choosing honestly
Board and train, Day Training and Private Training, side by side.
The honest difference between the options is who does the repetitions during the program. Practice at home continues afterwards in every case. In a board and train, we do them: daily one-on-one training in a structured routine, for two to six weeks depending on the program. In Day Training, we do them on weekdays and the dog comes home every night, at $650 + GST per week with a one-hour go-home lesson each week.
Private Training is the option where the owner does the repetitions and we coach. Each one-hour session is $150 + GST and comes with a written weekly plan customized to your home. Some owners want to teach the sit themselves, and that is a legitimate preference. The consultation is where we recommend a program, including the smaller one when it is enough.

Asked and answered
The questions people ask us.
Is it bad to send your dog to board and train?
No. It hands the repetitive part of skill-building to us for the length of the program, and the handover lesson and free follow-up sessions are there to teach and support you afterwards. The household rules and the ongoing practice were always going to be yours.
Will the dog bond with the trainer instead of the owner?
Dogs often work well for whoever is consistent with them, and during the program that is us. The handover lesson is where we teach you to be that consistent person at home, and free follow-up sessions support you afterwards. Bonds are built in the daily life you go home to, which no program replaces.
Do trainers judge owners who choose board and train?
Not here. The consultation is about what the dog needs and what your week can honestly hold, and the smaller option gets recommended when it does the job. Wanting the dog trained properly is not a character flaw.
What if we want to do the training ourselves?
Then Private Training is built for that: a one-hour session at $150 + GST with a written weekly plan you practise all week. It also comes with honest guidance on which program fits, if more help would help.
