Tom Campbell's Hill off-leash park
Bridgeland's dog park is a hill. Tom Campbell's Hill rises off St. George's Drive above Memorial Drive, a patch of native fescue grassland with a skyline view from the top and paths that are steeper than they look from the parking lot. The dogs come from the condos and infills below, which means the park is small, close and social. That combination is exactly what makes it a training problem worth solving.

The hill itself
Eighteen hectares of grassland with a downtown view.
The park sits along St. George's Drive NE and overlooks Memorial Drive and the point where the Bow River and Nose Creek converge. The City calls it a small but good example of rough fescue grassland, with three-flowered avens and moss phlox, woodpeckers in the trees and Richardson's ground squirrels in the turf, which your dog will notice before you do. An interpretive exhibit in the park explains the ecosystem, and the skyline view from there is the reason most people climb.
On the City's map the off-leash area (TCH-001) fills the hillside between St. George's Drive and 12 Street NE, from Centre Avenue up past Renfrew's playfields, with parking off Centre Avenue and at the north end near 7 Avenue. The playfields and playground at the north end carry no-dog signs, the golf course across St. George's Drive is off limits to dogs under the bylaw, and both parking lots are on-leash.

What a condo dog needs before the hill.
Recall on a slope is a different skill. A dog running downhill gathers speed and commitment, and the foot of this hill is Memorial Drive, so the recall must work while the dog is moving away with gravity on its side. Then the greetings: the paths are steep, the park is small and the same dogs meet at the same pinch points, so a calm hello matters more here than in a sprawling park. Add leave it for picnic blankets and ground squirrel holes.

Is Tom Campbell's Hill off leash?
Yes. The City designates an off-leash area on the hillside between St. George's Drive and 12 Street NE, listed as unfenced. The bylaw wants a dog that stays visible and answers a voice, sound or hand signal, and the leash goes back on for pathways and parking lots.
Where is the Bridgeland dog park?
Most people mean Tom Campbell's Hill Natural Park at 25 St. George's Drive NE, on the hill above Memorial Drive beside Bridgeland. It is an 18-hectare natural park with a designated off-leash area and hiking trails.
Are dogs allowed everywhere in Tom Campbell's Hill park?
No. The playfields and playground at the north end are signed no-dog areas, and under the bylaw dogs must stay at least five metres from such areas. The golf course next door is also off limits to dogs, and the parking lots are on-leash.
What is Tom Campbell's Hill like for a small or nervous dog?
Small, steep and social, which is wonderful for a confident dog and a lot for a nervous one. There is no fence, the paths funnel dogs together, and ground squirrel holes make the grass uneven underfoot.
