How long does e-collar training take?
The published answer is a program length. Functional Off-Leash runs three weeks, Advanced Off-Leash runs four, and each is a board and train with the remote collar included. What those numbers do not tell anyone is how long a particular dog takes to learn, because that depends on the dog and on the practice that follows the handover lesson. This page separates the two, so the calendar is read for what it is.

Functional Off-Leash is a 3-week board and train at $3,030 plus GST. Advanced Off-Leash is a 4-week board and train at $3,940 plus GST. It covers off-leash heel, advanced recall, sit, stay and down at distance, public manners and advanced distraction training, with the remote collar included and two free follow-up sessions. It is built for owners who want their dog with them everywhere, and a dog who can handle everywhere with calm confidence. The consultation is where we recommend one of these, or a smaller program when that is enough.

Length versus learning
A program length is not a learning timeline.
The three or four weeks we publish describe enrolment: how long the dog lives with us, trains one-on-one each day within the structured routine, and gets socialization, enrichment and owner updates. They do not describe a separate number of days for introducing or conditioning the collar, and we do not publish one. What we publish is the method: skills taught with markers and rewards first, tools matched to the individual dog, introduced properly and taught to the owner.
Learning time runs past the last day. Every board and train ends with a handover lesson, Functional Off-Leash includes one free follow-up session and Advanced Off-Leash includes two, and the practice an owner puts in afterward is part of a timeline no program length can count. We can say what a program works on and how long the dog stays. We cannot honestly say in advance how long a particular dog will take, and we do not promise off-leash reliability by a date.

How long does it take to condition a dog to an e-collar?
We do not publish a separate conditioning timeline, because it is not the same for every dog. Inside Functional Off-Leash the collar is introduced as part of a 3-week board and train, matched to the individual dog and taught to the owner before the dog goes home. The program length is the only number we can stand behind.
Can e-collar training be done in a week?
We do not offer a one-week e-collar program. The shortest program that includes the remote collar is Functional Off-Leash, a 3-week board and train at $3,030 plus GST; Advanced Off-Leash is a 4-week board and train at $3,940 plus GST. Those are enrolment lengths, not a claim about how quickly a dog learns.
How long does off-leash training take with an e-collar?
Our two off-leash programs run three weeks for Functional Off-Leash and four weeks for Advanced Off-Leash, both board and train with the remote collar included. Each program wraps up with a handover lesson, and the free follow-up sessions come afterward: one with Functional, two with Advanced. How much practice a particular dog needs beyond that is not something we can state in advance.
How do I know my dog is ready to go off leash on an e-collar?
We do not publish a readiness checklist, and we would not want a leash removed on the strength of a web page. Functional Off-Leash is built for dogs that already have decent manners, and it is at the consultation that we recommend it, Advanced Off-Leash, or something smaller when that covers the goal. The handover lesson and free follow-up sessions are the published support for the stage after the stay.
Is the e-collar included in the price?
Yes. Functional Off-Leash includes a Micro or Mini Educator remote collar and Advanced Off-Leash includes a remote collar, both inside the program price plus GST. Owner education on using the tool properly is part of the program as well.
