Will my dog forget me during board and train?
Somewhere between booking and drop-off, many owners have the same late-night thought: what if the dog comes back and looks at them like a stranger. It does not happen. A few weeks of good routine and daily training do not overwrite years of living together. Here is what the bond looks like at pickup, what shifts underneath it, and how to run the reunion so the first hour sets up the first month.

What a few weeks apart really does to the bond.
Dogs know people by scent, voice and gait, and none of that fades in a fortnight or a month. At handover the greeting is unmistakable: the body wiggles, the tail goes, the dog checks you over like luggage that finally arrived. Then something new happens. The dog settles. It sits when asked, walks on a loose leash beside you, and lies on place while you talk. That calm is not distance. It is a dog who knows what is expected and finds that restful.
Some owners misread that settled dog as sad or distant, and go looking for the old chaos to prove the love is still there. Please do not. The dog that used to hurl itself at the door was not more bonded to you, just less regulated. During a stay, your dog gets daily one-on-one training, structured rest, socialization and enrichment, and it comes home with a bigger vocabulary. It will still sleep on your feet. It will just also come when called.

Clearer communication, and how to run the reunion.
What changes is the conversation. Before the program, most of what you said was noise: repeated names, pleading, a leash that talked constantly. After it, the dog has a marker word that means yes, a handful of commands that each mean one thing, and a tool, whether a slip lead, a prong collar or an Educator e-collar, that we introduced and will teach you to use the same way. Fewer words, less frustration, more listening. Most people feel closer for it.
The reunion protocol is simple. Greet your dog, then let the excitement drain out for a few minutes before the lesson starts. During the handover lesson you handle the dog yourself, on the commands and the tool, until it responds to you the way it responds to us. At home, keep the routine for the first week rather than celebrating with a free-for-all. Then use the free follow-up sessions; Advanced Off-Leash and Behaviour Rehab each include two.

Will my dog forget me during board and train?
No. A dog does not lose track of its people over a stay of two to six weeks. Expect an enthusiastic greeting at handover, followed by a dog who settles more quickly than the one you dropped off.
Do dogs forget their owners after board and train?
They do not. Owners sometimes mistake the calmer, more controlled dog at pickup for one that has cooled on them, but that composure is training, not indifference. Give it a day at home and the same dog is back in your lap.
Does board and train ruin the bond?
In our experience it does the opposite. A dog that understands what you are asking, and an owner who has been taught to ask clearly, argue less and enjoy each other more. The handover lesson and follow-up sessions are where that clarity gets transferred to you.
Do dogs get sad at board and train?
A few are quiet for the first day or so while they work out the new place, which is expected. A structured day with one-on-one training, rest, socialization and enrichment leaves little room for moping, and most dogs are working happily well before the stay ends. You will see that in the updates we send.
